What does buying local mean?
Buying local means:
- enjoying fresh, delicious food grown right here, in season, at the peak of flavor
- supporting Oklahoma businesses and the local economy
- the peace of mind that comes with knowing your local farmer and how your food is grown
- encouraging young people to take up farming for the generations to come
Look for the label and taste the difference! Oklahoma grown foods will say … Oklahoma grown. How easy is that?
In the next few weeks as we’re getting started, we’ll be putting together a list of places that you can find Oklahoma grown and/or produced food. But you can start today!
How?
Do you have a farmers market in your town? Stop by!
Have you heard of the food cooperatives in your area? Try one out!
Does your local market sell Oklahoma food? If not, ask them why not!
Look at the labels on the food in your cabinet and see where your food comes from. See if you can find the same thing a little closer to home. Bon appetit!
